Clayton, Oklahoma is located in Pushmataha County between two beautiful lakes and a state park nearby. Clayton is 77 miles southwest of Fort Smith, AR and 114 miles south of Tulsa, OK. Paris, Texas is only 83 miles south by Hwy 271.

 

Clayton Lake, located 5 miles south of Clayton on Hwy 271, has 2 miles of shoreline and 66 surface acres and Clayton Lake State Park  is a  500 acre park with RV spaces, tent camping, rustic cabins, fishing dock, swimming beach and much more.

Sardis Lake, a top trophy bass fishing lake,  is located five miles north of Clayton along Hwy 2. From the lake, you will see the majestic mountain vistas; the Kiamichi Mountains are to the south, the Jack Fork Mountains to the west and the Winding Stair Mountains to the east and north. The view over the lake with the mountains as a backdrop is gorgeous, especially at sunset.

The Kiamichi River is excellent for bass, catfish, bream, sand bass and crappie. There are numerous lakes in Pushmataha County within one hour distance for the fishing and boating enthusiasts.

Hunters come from all over to look for deer, wild turkey, wild boar, quail, and squirrel in Pushmataha County. Oklahoma hunters have on average taken nearly 100,000 deer a year for the last several deer seasons and the state is looking for ways to increase this number. Deer season is a huge event in Pushmataha County!

Clayton is a wonderful place to spend a weekend or a week. Whether you want to go boating, fishing, swimming, four-wheeling, or visit the local Clayton attractions, there is something for everyone in the family.

Not only is the spectacular 13000 acre Hugo Lake a paradise for skiers, campers and hunters, but fishermen find the best fishing in the world in Hugo's Kiamichi River Valley.

Pine Creek Lake
Pine Creek is a 5,000 acre lake which offers a relaxed atmosphere and excellent boating and fishing activities.

Lake Murray -  Ardmore
With 67 miles of shoreline the lake is very popular for both fishing and recreational activities.

Things to do in the Clayton area:

Buffalo Creek - A short but very exciting whitewater stream with Class II to III ledge drops. The creek twists and turns frequently as it winds it way through the Kiamichi Mountains on its way to Broken Bow Lake.

Gary Sherrer Wildlife Management Area

Sardis Lake - 14,360 acres, with 117 miles of shoreline and considered a top bass trophy lake.

Sardis Lake Recreation Area - There are 5 different Corps Managed Recreation Areas on the lake.

Clayton Lake - a great little lake 5 miles south of Clayton with Clayton Lake State Park as an additional attraction.

Clayton Lake State Park - 500 acre park and Clayton Lake.

Minnetonka Christian Camp - Clayton

Flagpole Tower - Located 3.6 miles ESE of Clayton. The tower has an elevation of 1,844 feet.

Umbrella Rock - Located 3.7 miles from Clayton. This mountain pillar in Pushmataha County climbs to 1,745 feet above sea level.
